Zephyr

***
This photograph was taken on the coast during a staff retreat. All though it was windy and rainy, I was still able to find beauty in that. We had to keep running in for cover every time the rain would start to pour and the wind kick up, but eventually I got this beautiful shot.

I have to say this was a pretty awesome experience. I got to photograph my first ever mutual engagement! This beautiful couple proposed to each other. As I talked to them about their egalitarian beliefs for their relationship and photographed their held hands, two rings visible, I was able to see a kind of beauty and commitment that I have never seen before! What an honor.

Maria & Carlita

I was mowing the lawn the other day... with one of those old fashioned lawn mowers. The ones without a motor, that you have to push and pull, and then pick the grass out of the blades every 10 minutes. But I didn't mind because it was a lovely day and I was breaking in my brand new Chacos! I was taking my 4th break after around 30 minutes of lawn mowing when I hear someone say, "Esa maquina no funciona", meaning "that machine doesn't work" in Spanish. I look over and there is this lovely elderly woman, casually watching me mow the lawn. She is accompanied by her granddaughter. I sat on the sidewalk and chatted with them about the weather, about the differences between California and Oregon, and about how they used to live in California. Maria, the grandmother, told me about the adventures of her youth. Carlita, the granddaughter, and I spoke about her siblings and school. It was such an honor talking with them! And it has been a while since I used my Spanish, so that was nice as well! Naturally I had to take their picture. So here are my favorite shots! :)

Nicholas Smith

***
As many of you know I just moved into a new house with nine other lovely people. Well, I am absolutely obsessed with this house, it is beautiful. I take any chance I can get to take photographs in it! The last shoot, of Taylor and Chantal was taken at my house as well. Anywho, Nick is a friend of one of my housemates. He came up from LA for a couple of days and agreed to model for me! It was storming at first and we were worried we wouldn't be able to do it, so I prayed that the sun would come out for just 30 minutes so I could do a mini photoshoot... and it did!!! It was so much fun shooting Nick. I love shooting people who have no idea how photo genetic they are, or who have perhaps never modeled before. I hope you enjoy viewing  these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Taylor & Chantal

***
What fun! I met Taylor and Chantal a couple of weeks ago. They were stopping through town on their way to Seattle, and stayed at our place! The second they walked in the door I knew I had to take pictures of them! They are such loving and gorgeous girls. They arrived at our house around 10:30pm and we all woke up bright and early the next day to take pictures. The photoshoot only lasted 30 minutes, but it was such a great time, and I love the results.

Cara

***
So I'm back in the Dominican Republic visiting family for the summer, and I remember that before leaving for college there were several places that I wanted to take photos. One of them was this rather random door that leads into the roof of my house. It is kind of like an attic of sorts, but not really used for storage. Anyway, I had the awesome opportunity to photograph a friend who was here on a short missions trip from South Carolina. We dresses her up, quickly slapped some makeup on her face and headed for the attic. This was a really fun shoot. Not to mention I had Rachel,  another awesome photographer working with me. We did the shoot in a little over an hour, and these were my favorite shots!

Studio Lights

***
In photo class a couple of weeks ago we got to play around with studio lights. I was looking through and sorting photos and ran across these, which I had completely forgot about! So here you go, a little experimentation with studio lighting. :)

Shadows

This semester I am taking Photography II at school which has an emphasis on digital photography. Our first assignment was "Shadows", and those were our only instructions. For these shots I used an old wicker chair that I propped up in a window at my house. The sun shown through and made the beautiful shapes that you see! The next assignment is "Self Portrait" and "Small people, Big Space"... we'll see how those go.
